Get Golf Ready

Get Golf Ready provides all the basics to help a new golfer become comfortable on the golf course.

The "Get Golf Ready" program is an industry-wide initiative based on the First Swing and Link-Up 2 Golf programs of the PGA of America.  The program is to be completed in five (5) sessions and has a "learn and play" focus in each session.

Get Golf Ready has two components within each lesson:

  • Swing Instruction - Introduction to the basic terminology, rules, etiquette and 5 basic golf shots (full swing, putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play)
  • On-Course Experience - Each lesson allows students to apply the swing instruction of that lesson on the golf course. By the fifth lesson, students will have the knowledge and ability to play a hole from tee to green and hopefully play at least nine (9) holes. Other areas of the game like Rules and Etiquette will be addressed while students are on the golf course.

When a student has completed all five sessions, she will "graduate" from the Get Golf Ready Program.  We encourage Chapters to recognize this significant accomplishment with a graduation ceremony at the final day of their session.

Read what participants are saying about the former EWGA Getting Started Program:

  •  The experience was fantastic. It was the shortest 3 hours of the week.

  • This was about the most fun I've had in 10 years! Our teaching professional made the skills seem easy and gave us ways to focus that were memorable!

  • All the mentors were so encouraging.  I will be there for next year's new players.

  • This was a great opportunity to learn golf from a women's perspective. It was fun having other women who were as uncomfortable as me about playing with others because of our lack of knowledge.  Now I am excited and feel that although I am not a great golfer and still have a long way to go, I can go play at anytime and have fun.

  • My teaching professional was absolutely fabulous! I have no athletic ability at all! None! And yet she made me feel as if I could go out and golf with others.
