PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, January 28, 2010 – Since being founded as the Executive Women's Golf Association in 1991, the EWGA has enriched the lives of over 100,000 women, connecting them through the game of golf. A survey of former EWGA members found that 84% of these women continued to play golf. And while not quite as avid as current EWGA members – playing on average 28 rounds per year versus 32 rounds – these former and current members represent over 1.7 million rounds of golf each year.
Conducted by the PGA of America, the 2008 survey of EWGA members found that on average, an EWGA member spends $4296 on golf activities, merchandise and golf-related travel. This means that each local EWGA chapter annually generates $602,900 in golf-related spending and the association's current EWGA members represent nearly $75 million to the golf industry. While the former EWGA member survey did not include golf-related travel, this group's golf spending accounted for an additional $98 million, totaling over $173 million.
"We consider this serious 'purse power'. These PGA surveys confirm that our association is a valuable portal for bringing and keeping women involved in the game," says Pam Swensen, CEO of the EWGA. "We know that the women who embrace the EWGA experience are good stewards for the sport - they know the etiquette and rules, revere golf's traditions and become golfers for life."
EWGA members represent a dynamic, unique and influential group of professional and business women. They are well educated (76% have a college or advance level degree) and have significant discretionary income. The majority (55%) having a total household annual income in excess of $100,000.
The mission of the EWGA is to connect women to learn, play, and enjoy golf for business and fun. This tax exempt association delivers a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers at over 125 local chapters throughout the United States and international chapters in Canada. A welcoming environment, golf education and player development, and organized play programs are part of the many benefits of EWGA membership.
