Julie McKenna from Springfield, Mass. defeated a field of thirty-two women in the Championship Flight to claim the title as the Overall Champion of the 2013 EWGA (Executive Women's Golf Association) Championship Finals on September 8, 2013 at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, AZ.
Despite the inclement weather, McKenna posted a Final Gross Score of 146, 4 strokes better than her nearest competitor, to capture the victory. The former Wake Forest University and Western New England College School of Law alumna was ecstatic about her win. "I am sure I will be running on adrenaline for the next week or so," said McKenna.
EWGA (Executive Women's Golf Association) Board of Director, Jon Last, was in Golf, Inc. Magazine's recent listing of the eighteen most innovative people in the golf industry included the likes of a number of leaders in golf facility development and management. But rounding out the list was a marketing researcher—Sports and Leisure Research Group Founder and President, Jon Last. As one more used to creating lists than being included on them, Last was surprised to be selected from among an extensive group of several hundred nominees. Said Last, " I feel that our firm's commitment to rigorous research standards coupled with an insatiable appetite to translate our findings into something that our clients find meaningful and actionable is a necessity in this world of data overload. Since our leadership team has worked on the brand side, in agencies, media, travel and sports, it's important that everything we do is delivered within the appropriate context and perspective for the particular client. I might prefer 'pragmatic' to 'innovative,' but I'm flattered by the compliment."
Now in its 18th year, the EWGA (Executive Women's Golf Association) Championship is the largest women's amateur golf competition in the world. The event provides competitive tournament golf for members of all skill levels and more than 2500 members participate annually. The EWGA Championship offers two different competitive formats: Stroke Play Competition and Inter-Chapter Team Scramble Competition.
