As I complete my first full month as CEO, I thought this would be an appropriate time to update you on the EWGA today and give you my view of the organization’s future. First, let me say that it has been a pleasure meeting and hearing from many of you. Your passion for the EWGA is unmatched and your love for the game of golf shines through with each conversation. Because of your continued passion, I wake up every day more encouraged and more optimistic about our organization. While I will remain in “full learning mode” for the foreseeable future, one thing I know for sure is that I am committed to taking the EWGA to the next level. No matter where you live and no matter where your affiliations lie, I feel confident that there are things that we all can do to make the EWGA experience a better one.
The EWGA has a 25-year history of offering women the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy golf for business and fun. During those 25 years, opportunities for women in golf have grown exponentially and today, more than ever, women’s golf is truly on the rise. So, “abundant opportunities,” “women’s golf on the rise”….you are probably saying, “that’s great but how do those buzz words affect my EWGA experience today?” Well, they don’t….yet!! But, they will. For possibly the first time in history, the golf industry is acting on the notion that growing the women’s game is an important component of golf’s future successes. For the EWGA, that should be music to our ears!
So, that is the good news….but I am a realist and, as such, I look at the EWGA and think we can do better. As many of you know and have experienced, our membership is in a gradual decline. We have less than optimal brand consistency across chapters. We have challenges with Chapter Board leadership…not because we are not committed but we are ALL in need of more hours in every day! We have fewer local and national partners than we would like. Again, we can do better….and we will.
I am very fortunate to be working with an amazing group of extremely accomplished women who comprise the EWGA Board of Directors. Their understanding of the EWGA and diverse business backgrounds provide an unyielding source of knowledge for me on a regular basis. That said, I am happy to report that the Board and I will soon be embarking on a strategic planning project that will provide us all with a new road map and vision for our organization now and in the future. Stay tuned…more on that to come.
Needless to say, the EWGA is on the move but the staff cannot do it alone. The boots-on-the- ground-army-of-volunteers ARE the EWGA. We cannot thank you enough for your support and dedication for making the organization what it is today. However, whether you are a volunteer or just enjoy the benefits of EWGA membership, you have a voice. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time should you have a question, comment or concern.
