Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., January 20, 2011 - The EWGA (Executive Women's Golf Association) Foundation now is accepting applications for its 2011 'Women On Par®' scholarship. The program was established in 2008 to provide financial assistance to nontraditional female students – women at least 30 years old. It targets women who need assistance in bolstering their education to allow them to get 'on par' with their peers and to advance themselves, whether professionally or personally.
EWGA membership is not a requirement to apply or receive a scholarship. Applicants are required to be pursuing a technical/vocational degree, associates or bachelor's degree and currently enrolled or accepted to enroll in an accredited school, college or university. For complete eligibility requirements and application forms, see the EWGA Foundation tab at www.ewga.com .
There is a two-step selection process associated with the program. The application period is open from January 1 through March 15, 2011. However, only the first 200 applications received during this time period will be considered and notice will be posted online should the acceptance process be closed early. The second phase will include additional screening by the Scholarship Selection Committee and the 2011 winner of the $1000 scholarship will be announced by June 15.
"The response to our 'Women On Par®' scholarship program validates the enormity of the need to help nontraditional "older" students achieve their educational goals," says Margaret Downey, president of the EWGA Foundation. "Last year we received applications from 47 states as well as Puerto Rico and Canada. We have launched a scholarship fund endowment campaign and hope to be able to expand the program, and in the future help more women get 'on par'. "
Christy Bartlett Women On Par® Scholarship Fund
As part of the Foundation's efforts to expand the program, a special fundraising campaign was rolled out to the EWGA membership. Named in honor of a woman who exemplifies the courage, determination and spirit that is fostered through this scholarship program, the Christy Bartlett Women On Par® Scholarship Fund has an endowment goal of $50,000.
Bartlett, an EWGA member from the Portland, Ore. Chapter, twice has won the EWGA Member-Get-A Member campaign earning the chance to play rounds of golf with Rosie Jones in 2004 and with Laura Diaz in 2007 through her efforts to introduce hundreds of women to the many benefits of golf and belonging to the EWGA. She has been a volunteer at numerous EWGA Championship Finals and Annual Conferences and is an inspiration to all who know her.
"We want to honor Christy for her remarkable spirit, passion for golf and the EWGA. Her name on this scholarship will be a lasting tribute sure to inspire every future scholarship recipient," says Downey. "Christy has touched the lives of so many and this is the best way we can show her how much she means to each of us and the EWGA.
