ARCIS GOLF AND EWGA PARTNER TO STRENGTHEN WOMEN’S GOLF

Leading golf course operator hopes to welcome more women to the game

Dallas, Tex. - Arcis Golf has formed a national partnership with the Executive Women’s Golf Association’s (EWGA) Golf Course Network program to encourage more women to learn and enjoy the game of golf.

This initiative will work two ways. Members, customers, and employees at designated Arcis Golf facilities will have access to the programs and opportunities afforded by the EWGA, which annually holds thousands of golf, social, networking, and competitive events. And EWGA members will be offered special playing rates at Arcis Golf facilities across the U.S.

The EWGA Cup series, now in its seventh year, encourages women of all skill levels to compete in a friendly and fun team-based format that encourages teamwork and camaraderie. Teams are composed of eight players from various EWGA chapters who often coordinate colorful outfits with clever team names. For example, the Birdie Badgers of Madison, Wisconsin won the 2016 EWGA Cup after 36-holes of competition, split between singles and four-ball match play. The 2017 EWGA Cup series will consist of eight regional summer qualifiers, followed by the 2017 EWGA Cup Finals, to be conducted at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida, Oct. 27-28. Over 125 teams and 1,000 women are expected to participate in this year’s series.

Weston Mission Hills hosts record-setting EWGA Cup Finals

November 22 | Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. -With 50 teams of eight women - a total of 400 competitors - the EWGA Cup Finals presented by Guardian was a record-setting event. The two-day, match play event was held on the Pete Dye and Gary Player Signature Courses at the Troon-managed Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort in Rancho Mirage, California on November 11 and 12.  Two shot-gun starts on both days of competition, plus hundreds of practice rounds, found the Troon staff up to the challenge with rave reviews from all of the women golfers.

Now in its sixth year and one of the premier competitive events run by theExecutive Women's Golf Association, the EWGA Cup presented by Guardian started with Four Ball and Singles Match Play at eight regional qualifiers throughout the country, with teams competing to earn a spot on the Finals roster.  The Cup’s format mirrors the professional golf formats used at the Ryder Cup, President’s Cup and Solheim Cup events.  The event encourages women of all skill levels to compete, promoting friendly, fun competitive play among its membership.  Clever team names and colorful, coordinated outfits added to the friendly competition, won this year by the Birdie Badgers from Madison, Wisconsin.  For complete results visit EWGACup.com.

Pam Swensen to step down as CEO of Executive Women’s Golf Association

November 7 | Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.- Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) CEO Pam Swensen has announced her intention to step down as CEO of the organization on January 20, 2017, completing 15 years of service. The early timing of the announcement will allow the EWGA Board of Directors time to identify a replacement and facilitate a smooth transition to a new CEO.

"I've enjoyed working with the EWGA staff and volunteer leaders immensely over the years,” Swensen said. “I am very proud of what we have accomplished in creating a welcoming environment to grow the game of golf for women and touch the lives of more than 125,000 women within our 25 year history. The EWGA is positioned for the future, and I have decided it’s a good time to pursue a new challenge.”

“On behalf of the EWGA Board, I’d like to thank Pam for her years of dedicated service to the association,” said EWGA Board President Hilary Tuohy. "During her tenure, Pam has propelled the organization to the stature it holds today.”  Tuohy went on to say that, “The EWGA looks forward to continuing positive and fruitful relationships with our industry partners and sponsors to ensure that women’s golf remains in the forefront of the industry”.

Swensen joined EWGA in 2002 and is credited with helping elevate the stature of the EWGA within the industry.  During her tenure as EWGA’s CEO, Ms. Swensen received numerous honors including the Trainor Award from The Symetra Tour, the LPGA’s developmental Tour, for the organization’s work in growing women’s golf. For two years running (2012 and 2013), The Commonwealth Institute recognized Ms. Swensen as one of the top female CEO’s running a not-for-profit organization. And in 2014, she was honored by the International Network of Golf with Industry Honors in the Business Achievement category. 

The EWGA Board has established a search committee to identify potential CEO candidates and anticipates completing the process by early 2017.

EWGA CEO Pam Swensen Shares Ways to Attract Women Golfers

October 26 | Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-  Speaking on "Marketing to the Power of the Purse" at the Midwest Golf Course Owners Association (MWGCOA) Conference in Oakdale, Minnesota,  Pam Swensen, CEO of the Executive Women's Golf Association (EWGA) shared insights from the organization's 25 years of promoting women's golf.

"Women want to feel welcome. It is that simple," says Swensen. " Yet how facilities can make that happen takes a constant, concerted effort at every touch point.  One surly ranger or a neglected bathroom can change the entire golf experience.  They may bring the situation to your attention, but more likely, they will simply take their business elsewhere."

While only 20% of U.S. golfers are women, they represent considerable revenue potential. Just the members of EWGA, with local Chapters in over 100 communities around the country, annually account for more than $63 million in golf-related spending, according to a PGA of America survey.

"Our members are avid golfers," says Swensen. "The survey revealed that members play an average of 42 18-hole equivalent rounds and each spend an average of $5,356 on golf activities, equipment and golf-related travel. The EWGA Golf Course Network is their 'go-to' directory to find the best playing opportunities that welcome EWGA members."

The EWGA Golf Course Network provides a listing and link on the association website as well as a EWGA membership for one of the course's employees to foster an ongoing relationship with the local Chapter. EWGA Concludes Championship Season at Lansdowne Resort

October 20 | Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.– The Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA), the largest women-focused national amateur golf association, held its 2016 EWGA Championship Finals at the Lansdowne Resort & Spa in Leesburg, Virginia on Oct. 14 and 15.Katie Brinker of Greenwood, Indiana took the medalist honor for the third consecutive year.

The EWGA Championship is one of the largest women’s amateur golf competitions for all skill levels, including stroke play competition and team scramble competition.  More than 2,200 EWGA members participated in local qualifying events and advanced to one of 15 semi-final championships held throughout the summer.  This year 226 members from 77 EWGA Chapters in 38 states, Canada and Bermuda advanced to the EWGA Championship Finals, with the two-day, 36-hole event  played on the Greg Norman and Robert Trent Jones II courses at the Troon-managed Golf Club of Lansdowne.

Gross and net winners were recognized in five flights of individual stroke play, with the Cincinnati, Ohio Chapter winning the scramble division. Complete results and photos are online at ewgachampionship.com

2016 EWGA Championship Finals at Lansdowne Resort

Katie Brinker of Greenwood, Indiana is returning to defend her medalist honor for the third consecutive year. She will face steep competition from several past Champions, including multi-time winners Pat Ayres of Port St Lucie, Florida and Rachael Moreaux of San Rafael, California and a strong field of other past and new competitors vying for the title. The first place gross and net winners in each flight and the winning scramble team are invited to return to the Finals to compete the following year.

EWGA Names Brian McNulty as Association's First CFO

September 21 | Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-- Brian  McNulty has been named the Chief Financial Officer for the Executive Women's Golf Association (EWGA). Celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2016, EWGA is the largest women-focused national amateur golf association in the United States with Chapters located in more than 100 cities as well as international Chapters in Bermuda, Canada and Italy.

Prior to joining EWGA, McNulty was the Chief Financial Officer at Colloquy, formerly a wholly owned subsidiary of Kaplan, Inc., a Graham Holdings Company, which partnered with leading universities to develop and grow online degree programs.  He has more than 15 years of budgeting, analysis and financial leadership experience across a wide range of industries including payroll processing, theme parks and banking. McNulty is a Chartered Financial Analyst® charterholder with a Bachelor's degree from Oglethorpe University and a MBA from the Yale School of Business Management.

EWGA Foundation Awards Two 2016 Women on Par® Scholarships

August 9 | Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. - Brenda Bertram from Fond du Lac, WI and Candice Desiree Mitchell  from Ashville, NC  have been awarded 2016 Women On Par Scholarships from the  EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association) Foundation.

Now in its eighth year, this scholarship program provides financial support to women  30 years of age and older who want to begin or complete their undergraduate education to get ‘on par’ with their peers.

Bertram and Mitchell were awarded the scholarships based on need and their remarkable stories of perseverance and determination to further their education. Both women were thrilled to learn that the EWGA Foundation is helping to make their dreams a reality.

" Every year, we  learn of so many women who are returning to school to further their education and personal circumstances," says Nona Footz, President, EWGA Foundation Board of Directors. " We are pleased to be able to help these two very deserving women. It is through the generosity of EWGA members and others that we can continue to 'pay it forward'  with this annual Women on Par Scholarship program."

In her forties, Bertram is pursuing a degree in business management while being the sole provider for her four children and disabled husband. Since 2008, when her husband was injured in a construction accident, Bertram has endured a series of family tragedies and overcome numerous hardships, working as a waitress to support her family.

"By returning to school, I took the initiative to get our lives back to as normal as possible," said Bertram. "One of the reasons I am majoring in business is because I believe the skills I have developed through the years of struggle, the extra responsibilities I had to assume, and the obstacles I have had to overcome will be useful in the business world. My goal is to get my family back 'on par' and this scholarship will help. Thank you  EWGA  Foundation."

Thirty-one year old Mitchell is a single mom and cancer survivor working toward a nursing degree. She left an abusive marriage and underwent cancer surgery and now works several jobs as a housekeeper and personal assistant to support herself and daughter.

" This scholarship will help me maintain a balance between working to support my family and retaining the flexibility and time I need to attend classes and study," said Mitchell. " I want to give my daughter the example of a strong independent role model. Becoming a nurse is a profession I can be proud of and where my skill and compassion will be useful and necessary.  I know from experience that in medical difficulties it is often the nurses who have the most personal contact with the patient. If I can make life easier for a person or family, I will consider that day a success."
