HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The EWGA Central Arkansas Chapter hosted the Eastern Midwest District Semi-Final at Ponce de Leon Golf Club on Saturday, July 22, 2017. There are 15 District Semi- Final venues nationwide during a three-month period for golfers who advance from their local Chapter Championships.
Now in its 22nd year, the EWGA Championship is the largest women’s amateur golf tournament of its kind, with more than 2,400 members participating annually. The competitive tournament appeals to EWGA members of all skill levels as it includes five flights of Stroke Play Competition and as well as a Scramble Division. Participants compete in a local Chapter Championship, presented by Guardian Life Insurance of America, then advance to the district semi-finals at one of 15 venues nationwide. The event concludes with the national EWGA Championship, an exciting two-day finals competition that will be held at Hot Springs Village in Hot Springs, Arkansas on October 6 and 7.
The Central Arkansas District semi-final boasted a field of 51 EWGA members representing 6 Chapters (Central, AR; Greater Knoxville, TN; Huntsville, AL; Middle Tennessee, Nashville, TN; St Louis, MO; Tri-Cities of Northeast, TN) with 18 ladies earning advancement opportunities to the EWGA Championship Finals. The event Low Gross honors went to Lynna Rader, Greater Knoxville, TN Chapter with a score of 81. Danna Raube from the Middle Tennessee won the Low Net honors with a score of 76 in the Championship flight. Earning advancement opportunities to the Finals were the low gross and low net winners in each flight: First Flight – Marceia Cox (83 gross) from Central, AR; and Mary Dave Blackman (73 net) from Tri-Cities of TN; Second Flight Terry Applegate (91 gross) from Middle, TN; and Valerie Little (69 net) from Central, AR; Third Flight – Jeanne Miller (94 gross) from Central; AR and Audrey Anderson (69 net) Middle, TN; and Fourth Flight – Dinah Phillips (123 low gross) from Huntsville, AL and Bobbie Markham (88 low net) of Nashville, TN.
Earning senior recognition awards were Lynna Rader (Senior-Low Gross) with a score of 81 from Greater Knoxville, TN Chapter; Jeanne Miller (Senior-Low Net) with a score of 64 from the Central Arkansas Chapter; and Suzanne Donaldson (Super Senior-Low Gross) with a score of 101 from Tri-Cities, TN Chapter and Rebecca Pecher (Super Senior-Low Net) with a score of 90 from St. Louis, MO.
The Central, AR Chapter scramble team of Christy Mahan, Pam Evans, Melissa Scheidt, and Ainslee Sikole had the low net score of 65, and were crowed the 2017 Scramble Team Champions. Another Central AR scramble team of Natalie Gay, Jessalyn Johnson, Trisha Cooper and Cherie Fanhon placed second with a low net score of 70 also advancing to compete in Hot Springs, AR in the Championship finals.
Special thanks to the EWGA Central Arkansas Chapter who with their 16 volunteers graciously assisted and entertained in true Southern Charm. The event was the epitome of Southern hospitality with phenomenal facility staff, a manicured Troon registered golf course, Ponce de Leon Golf Club, and fifty-one enthusiastic lady golfers and perfect golf conditions.
