LPGA Tour Player Beth Bader (pictured below) has been named Honorary Chair for the 2009 EWGA Women Who Lead Awards Program
This EWGA program, launched in 2008, is designed to recognize and honor women who have made a difference in their Chapters through outstanding performance and by achieving outstanding results in the following categories: overall leadership, spirit, change agent, membership growth, sponsorship, golf education & player development, golf events, golf leagues, making connections, and community impact.
From nominations from members, finalists in each category are selected and then the 10 award winners are chosen. The 2009 award recipients will be honored at the EWGA Golfpalooza (formerly known as EWGA Conference), receive a commemorative gift and entered into a drawing to win one of three playing spots for a private 18-hole round of golf with LPGA Tour Professional Beth Bader at the April 2010 EWGA Golfpalooza in Pinehurst, NC.
"I am honored to serve as the spokeswoman for the EWGA 2009 'Women Who Lead' Award program. As an LPGA Tour player, I know I would not be where I am had it not been for those who led the LPGA into existence," says Bader who joined the LPGA Tour in 2001. "I look forward to playing a round of golf with the women of the EWGA who are leading in a variety of ways that make a difference for women of today and those to follow."
Bader began her golf career in Iowa where she won the 1991 Iowa Junior Open, 1991 Des Moines Open and 1992 Waterloo Junior Open. She was captain of the Iowa State University (ISU) women's golf team, where she earned her degree in sports management in 1997. She played on the Futures Tour before joining the LPGA in 2001. Since losing her mother to pancreatic cancer in 2004, Bader has led a crusade against the disease by launching the Susan L. Bader Foundation of Hope, and raising more than $50,000 in a memorial tournament. In 2007, Bader recorded a career-best tie for fourth at the LPGA Corning Classic where she carded a season low 65 in the opening round and matched an LPGA season-low for 36 holes with a 13-under-par 131. Her best 2008 finish was a tie for 25th at the LPGA State Farm Classic and she placed T57 in the March 2009 MasterCard Classic.
